The Characteristics of Fire Risk in High-Rise Buildings

This chapter introduces high-rise building architectural elements and associated fire issues including the steel structural fire resistance, high-rise building egress challenges and strategy, the egress architectural components, and the emergency plan due to its unique project nature. This chapter also includes the code reference for the design criteria as the base while expanding to include the performance design method as needed. The available analysis tools (such as the smoke modeling and egress modeling for the performance-based design method recognized by the professional community internationally) are also discussed and shared in this chapter. The global view for some concerned issues related to the supertall buildings design has been discussed for food for thought.
