Gradient Index Films and Multilayers

TheGradient index films generalMultilayers theory of the optical behaviour of stratified media is derived starting from Maxwell’s equations. Applications of this theoretical apparatus to the calculation of gradient index films as well as rugate filters are presented. From the general theory, the matrix formalism for multilayer calculation is derived. Basic underlying model assumptions are summarized and discussed.
