The Kramers–Kronig Relations

The Kramers–Kronig relations establish a fundamental relationship between the dispersions of the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function. This way refraction of light and energy dissipation appear to be interconnected phenomena. Kramers–Kronig relations are derived for both insulators and electrical conductors making use of the theory of generalized functions. Simple sum rules are derived, too.
