Remote Managerial Efficiency in a Teleworking Context: An Exploratory Study Based on a Moroccan Startup Case
摘要
How can remote management effectiveness be ensured in an ever-evolving professional environment? Our research delves into the subtle intricacies of remote management to reveal its keys to success. Initially, it is important to note that the main challenges of this managerial mode lie in the pitfalls of communication and remote supervision. Therefore, contemporary managers must rethink their approach to supervision, guidance, and direction. Thus, by examining the dimensions of remote supervision, we uncover the crucial importance of control, autonomy, self-control, and trust in managing remote teams. Concurrently, our exploration of the key success factors of remote management highlights the crucial impact of effective communication, suitable technology, time management, skill training, regular meetings, and recognition. Taking an interpretivist stance and relying on rigorous methodology, we conducted semi-structured interviews with managers and subordinates of a Moroccan startup practicing remote management. This qualitative approach allowed us to delve into the experiences and perceptions of the involved actors, thereby enriching our understanding of the underlying dynamics of remote management. Our findings highlight that trust, control, and self-control are fundamental pillars for promoting autonomy, accountability, and performance of remote teams. Furthermore, we observe that effective communication, time management, recognition, and regular meetings play an essential role in maintaining cohesion and productivity among geographically dispersed teams.
