Medical Image Compression Using Discrete Wavelet Transform

Medical images are typically large in size and require high storage and transmission bandwidth. To save storage space and make transmission easier, medical image compression techniques have been widely studied. In this paper, this paper proposes a medical image compression technique that combines the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and the Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees (SPIHT) algorithm. The proposed method is evaluated on a dataset of medical images, and its performance is compared with other commonly used image compression methods. Our results show that the proposed method achieves high compression ratios while preserving the quality of the medical images.
