Effect of the Programmed Smoothing Parameters on the Kinematic Behavior of the NC Machine in HSM

The accuracy of the complex machined part is one of the key aspects of High-Speed Milling (HSM) performance. CAM software tends to meet this requirement by approximating the real tool path by short, linear blocks discontinuous at tangents. The smoothing of these discontinuities would be necessary to minimize the NC machine vibration as it passes through these discontinuities. This paper aims to explore the effect of programmed smoothing parameters (G641, G643) on the kinematic behaviour of the NC machine, by a set of experimental tests. The experimental test shows that G641 provides a smoother curvature variation compared to G643. This difference is reflected in the feed rate variation, where G641 shows high fluctuations, while G643 maintains a nearly constant feed rate.
