Finite Element Investigation on Bone Remodeling of FGM Dental Prosthesis

摘要

Osseointegrated dental implants have been used in recent years to replace missing teeth. The primary objective of the proposed research is to investigate how functionally graded (FG) implants influence the process of bone remodeling and identify the FG composition that promotes bone adaptation. This study combines a bone remodeling algorithm with finite element analysis to model and assess the bone remodeling process. To achieve this, UMAT subroutines and custom defined materials were integrated into the Abaqus software. The analysis demonstrated the benefits of functionally graded material (FGM) implants when compared to conventional titanium implants. The study revealed that the gradual change in material composition can indeed impact the bone adaptation process. More precisely, the findings suggest that employing functionally graded implants with reduced metal content can improve the bone remodeling process.
