Embryonic Stem Cells and the ‘Last-Minute’ Correction

Embryonic stem cells (ESCs)Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are the totipotent/pluripotent stem cellsPluripotent stem cells which initiate formation of a mammalian body through over 220 cells of inner cell mass (ICM) of the preimplanted blastocyst in the oviduct. We assume that the number of ICM cells defines the variety of cell types in a multicellular organism by the principle ‘one ICM cellICM cells—one type of a differentiated cell’. The preliminarily estimates show that the development and multiplication of these cells in humans and long-lived mammalian species occur in severe hypoxic-hypercapnic environment (HHE)Hypoxic-hypercapnic environment. HHE may determine the rate of metabolic processes and proliferation of ESCs. The severity of Po2 in oviduct strongly correlates with mammalian longevityMammalian longevity. Also, the duration of ESC exposure to HHE (i.e., a period from zygote to ICM of the blastocyst prior to its implantation) correlates with species-specific MLS.
