Since the first edition of Ranaviruses: Lethal Pathogens of Ectothermic Vertebrates in 2015, an increasingly large number of studies focused on the biology and ecology of ranaviruses and other related genera within the family Iridoviridae have been conducted. Indicative of continuing interest in this virus family, a PubMed search, covering the 8 years from 2015 to 2023 and using “iridovirus, ranavirus, and megalocytivirus” as keywords, identified about as many papers published in those 8 years (916) as in the preceding 60-year period (1187). In view of this growing interest, this updated and expanded edition will focus primarily on findings reported since the first edition.
