Nothing for Us, Without Us! Workplace Allyship and Employees with Disabilities
摘要
This chapter explores the critical role of allyship in supporting employees with disabilities in the workplace. It emphasizes the importance of accommodations and the impact of ableism, which imposes normative standards that marginalize disabled individuals. Allies must advocate for the provision of requisite accommodations, challenge erroneous stereotypes, and promote a meritocratic framework in human resource practices. The chapter also examines the importance of understanding disability identity and intersectionality, recognizing the unique challenges faced by disabled individuals from diverse backgrounds. Effective allyship involves fostering inclusive policies, education, and accessibility and addressing systemic barriers. Ultimately, the chapter underscores that creating inclusive workplaces requires collective responsibility, ongoing commitment, and active engagement from all organizational members to ensure equity and respect for all employees, regardless of ability.
