The racial laws were repealed by the Allied government in 1944. Decrees no. 9 of January 6, no. 25 of January 20, and no. 301 of October 19 readmitted professors to service. For economic purposes, the measure took effect from 1 January 1944 onwards, and the five years of forced absence (1938–43) was considered as paid leave, equivalent to normal work as far as salary and pension contributions were concerned.
