摘要

Despite the tense geopolitical situation in 2024, authors from different mountain regions of the world joined the discussion of a transcendental importance to align the development of montology and to reaffirm the novel approaches to understand mountainscapes. We attempted to connect traditional and innovative approaches in reviewing terminological conventions and lexicographic changes that satisfy decolonial montological theory. We conclude that new terms will be born at the intersection of different scales and fields of endeavor, shown in the effective convergence of disciplinary silos, integrated in a crosscutting approach with consilient and noetic principles. This is an important task for the parlance of common scientific monikers as the future of mountains, including socioecological systems and adaptive, self-organizing holarchies, will require cooperative inputs across the mountain graticule, from Western, Eastern, and Global South sciences, promoting and reaffirming the imperative development of montology.
