Mountain Identities: Multi-facety and Fluidity

Mountain identities are highly diversified, and they are never static and immutable. While mountain people are attached to their heritage and have shown a remarkable resilience facing threats and hazards, they have also proven their adaptive capacities to new challenges and opportunities. Today, traditional identities of mountain dwellers have been supplemented and, in some cases overlain by the influx of newcomers, by the periodic or permanent return of former residents, as well as by the powerful impact of the new communication channels.
