A Uniplanar Asymmetric Circular Slotted Patch Antenna for 5.8 GHz Applications

In this work, a uniplanar design-based antenna is suggested for 5.8 GHz wireless LAN applications. Uniplanar antenna design achieves the desired antenna performance within less space limit is a significant advantage. An asymmetric co-planar strip (ACS) feed is provided between the circular-shaped slotted radiating patch and rectangular ground designed on one side of the FR4 substrate of 0.8 mm thickness. The input signal is fed to the circular patch through a strip line. The position of the circular slot is altered in the circular patch to achieve wideband characteristics at 5.8 GHz. The uniplanar asymmetric circular slotted antenna achieves a gain of 2.46 dBi and an efficiency of 98.2% for the designed dimensions 19 mm x 17 mm. To validate the reflection coefficient characteristics, the designed antenna is fabricated and tested using a vector network analyzer. The measured reflection coefficient characteristics match well with the simulated one with a deviation of 4.6%.
