Intelligent IoT Based Smart Farming Framework for Soil Moisture Analysis

The Internet of Things (IoT), supported by advanced sensors, communication technologies, big-data storage, and analysis on connected cloud platforms, will enable farmers to make intelligent decisions regarding crop health. The challenge is to design a framework that will support real-time decision-making and ease of use for farmers with limited technical know-how. Soil moisture is a significant attribute in facilitating crop health, as the moisture content in the soil acts as a nutrition carrier for crop growth. The goal of the present work is to design an efficient framework to facilitate soil moisture analysis for intelligent decision-making regarding crop irrigation. The framework incorporates real-time monitoring of soil moisture and automation of irrigation services, thereby reducing the effort of farmers and ensuring optimal utilization of water resources. The paper also demonstrates the experimental setup used to validate the framework. The experimental results show that the framework facilitates soil moisture analysis and has the potential for real-life implementation.
