Multiparameter Physiological Estimation Based on Multi-electrodes and Bioimpedance Measurement Method

Nowadays, with the increase in obesity and other diseases caused by sedentary lifestyle and over-eating, the need to monitor and measure several body composition parameters is increasing. The measuring, monitoring and evaluating body’s parameters will help provide valuable information about the body’s nutritional status, health and ability to work. This paper presents a method of measuring several body composition parameters including body fat percentage BF (%), body bone mass BBM (g), body muscle percentage SM (%) using the bioimpedance measurement method. Basiclly, this body bioimpedance measurement method is performed by using a sine wave at a frequency of 10 kHz with the peak-to-peak amplitude of 0.6 V programmed with an Arduino Devkit and a voltage to current converter circuit that is responsible for converting the voltage that generated from the wave generator circuit into a steady current with a 0.6 mA peak to peak amplitude. Then, this current will be into the body via four disposable adhesive electrodes placed at predetermined positions on the brachial bicep. The body composition parameters are calculated based on the measured average impedance values using prediction equations. The proposed method’s results are tested on several resistors with precise values and on several volunteers. These results are estimated through comparison with measurement results by a number of being used commercial devices.
