Background on Ethics

Ethics is described as a qualitative evaluation of something compared to a common standard of moral values as accepted within a culture. According to Aristotle, humans have the ability to develop moral character, while other philosophers including Thomas Aquinas argued that moral requirements are based on standards of rationality. Most religions have created boundaries for an ethical life within their communities. Bioethics is a multidisciplinary field dealing with moral issues in practical medicine and healthcare as well as in medical research, environmental and public health issues.
