摘要

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role as a circulatory system in the human body, facilitating the movement of proteins, interstitial fluid, immune cells, and waste materials. There is still a significant knowledge gap about the molecular mechanisms and underlying disease pathology of lymphatic illnesses. This lack of understanding has impeded progress in the development of effective treatment interventions for these conditions. The presence of lymphatic system dysfunction has been observed to be correlated with several phenotypes of illness. Additionally, there is speculation that addressing this dysfunction could potentially lead to the restoration of healthy phenotypes in areas such as cardiovascular disease, neurological diseases, and metabolic syndrome. The prevalence of this transforming and debilitating disorder is believed to afflict over 240 million individuals globally, imposing a burden on both healthcare systems and the individuals affected by it. The gravity of lymphatic disorders necessitates the development of novel therapeutic approaches. One potential strategy involves the substitution of malfunctioning lymphatic vessels with bio-engineered alternatives. This chapter primarily focuses on various methodologies employed in the field of lymphatic tissue engineering, encompassing diverse procedures utilized for the engineering and regeneration of lymphatic tissue. Additionally, it explores the applications and current state of lymphatic tissue engineering.
