Nanoparticles in Targeting Lymphatic System for Cancer Treatment

The lymphatic system is a key part of how cancer grows and spreads and how the immune system responds to it. A hopeful way to treat cancer is to come up with new ways to target the lymphatic system in a very specific way. Nanoparticles are getting a lot of attention as possible carriers for healing drugs that target the lymphatic system. They have unique physical and chemical qualities and can have their surfaces changed in different ways. This abstract gives an outline of the new ways that nanoparticles can be used to target the lymphatic system to treat cancer. In this chapter, we talk about the problems and benefits of the lymphatic targeting techniques that use nanoparticles. We look at the different kinds of nanoparticles, compounds that change the immune system and imaging agents to lymphatic tissues. It is shown that nanoparticles can take advantage of the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect and actively target lymphatic endothelial cells and immune cells.
