Lipid-Based Carriers for Targeting Lymphatic System
摘要
Drug delivery via lymphatic approach has proved to be an effective approach for targeting various drugs and bioactive molecules. Since the lymphatic route can avoid first-pass metabolism, it can act as a bypass route for compounds with lower bioavailability, or those undergoing more hepatic metabolism, and is crucial for the movement of extracellular fluid to maintain homeostasis and immune cells to injury sites. Lymphatic imaging can also prove to be useful for the diagnosis of many diseases related to the lymph system. Novel lipid-based nanoformulations are attractive options for lymphatic administration because of their distinctive qualities. This chapter highlights various lipid-based nanostructures for targeting the lymphatic system for both treatment and diagnosis purpose.
