Exploiting Print Resources: Samuel Whyte’s English Grammar School, 1759–1811
摘要
This chapter focuses on methods Whyte used as an independent schoolmaster to promote and maintain his school. As an educational pioneer who influenced the methods of others, his name often appeared in Dublin newspapers. To appreciate Whyte’s use of various aspects of print culture I look separately at how he relied on textbooks, newspapers, and other forms of print to promote the reputation of his school and to teach his students.
