MicroRNA Databases
摘要
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a pivotal role in posttranscriptional gene regulation, making computational methods crucial for studying miRNAs. However, with the exponential growth of available data, accessing and effectively utilizing the vast amount of information has become a significant challenge for precise miRNA study. In this chapter, we address this issue through two approaches. Firstly, we present an extensive compilation of over 190 miRNA databases and repositories of various species, phenotypes, and groupings of interest. Secondly, we highlight a practical and comprehensive use case that underscores the application of the databases and their utility in addressing different questions and objectives related to miRNA research. We discuss the challenges of how the availability and maintenance of miRNA repositories are indispensable for repeatability and reproducible research in the bioinformatics field. This chapter provides not only an updated overview of present miRNA databases but also practical application of said repositories. Additionally, we made the miRNA databases list available as a supplement to this work and online at miRNAverse.de. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, this chapter aims to equip researchers with the necessary tools to navigate the ever-evolving field of miRNA research.
