Reflections on Learning Chinese Characters

In this concluding chapter to the book, I offer some insights from the perspective of a learner of various languages, including Chinese. Specifically, I reflect on different strategies I deployed to learn Chinese characters and highlight the benefits and challenges that they brought to me. I then discuss some of the new ideas that I discovered in reading the other chapters in this book. Finally, I draw on my experiences as a language teacher and language teacher educator to bring together various perspectives to createe an argument for principled pragmatism in the selection of pedagogical strategies for teaching Chinese characters in different learning contexts.
