Care of the Critical Care Team
摘要
In this chapter, information is provided on three types of psychological distress reported by staff working in paediatric intensive care settings in relation to their work: burnout, post-traumatic stress and moral distress. The main symptoms of these types of work-related distress are outlined together with evidence from recent studies of their prevalence in paediatric intensive care staff using standardised screening questionnaires. The impact on staff well-being of major emergency incidents and other stressful workplace situations is also discussed. Finally, suggestions drawn from the literature on intervention are also made as to how best to mitigate against these symptoms, both at the level of the individual and of the organisation or team.
