Sepsis and Septic Shock
摘要
Sepsis is a common, complex syndrome caused by the host’s dysregulated response to infection [1]. Sepsis continues to be a major burden on health care services in both developed and developing countries, despite implementation of good hygiene practices and effective, universal immunisation programmes [2]. If not treated in a timely manner, sepsis can rapidly progress to septic shock, with associated multiple organ dysfunction and eventually death from multiple organ failure. Early recognition and timely diagnosis of sepsis, together with appropriate management consisting of prompt use of empiric antimicrobials, aggressive fluid resuscitation, and early escalation of care have been shown to reduce mortality.
