摘要

This chapter provides an introduction to the empirical focus, research questions, and research methodology of the book. The chapter describes the book’s focus on exploring the news media’s engagement with the politics of reconciliation following the conclusion of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada. Using a comparative case-study approach, the book compares media coverage of ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ rights issues to determine how reconciliation as a political project has been discursively constructed. Following this, the chapter discusses the contributions of the book to the existing academic literature on Canadian politics and Indigenous-settler reconciliation. The chapter concludes with an overview of how the remaining sections of the book are structured and presented.
