Conclusions: Crisis Management in the Global South

When engaging with crisis management, a fact becomes evident: the overwhelming majority of the scientific research on the topic focuses on Western countries. This is not a surprising piece of data. Crisis management studies emerged and developed in Western liberal democracies to address unexpected situations and emergencies of any kind, tracing back the emergence of crisis management to the occurrence of natural and industrial accidents and political instability that had severe repercussions for the well-being of citizens and organizations (Rosenthal et al., 1989; Alexander, 2005; Perry & Quarantelli, 2005). Therefore, it can be said that crisis management evolved from a practice typical of organizations to a proper academic discipline that addresses, among others, the governance of risks and emergencies in order to guarantee the safeguard of an organization/system (Frandsen & Johansen, 2017). But what makes it possible to identify organizations? Indeed, the structure and the system of rules and norms characterize organizations and make them recognizable.
