Spatial Diversity in the Global City: The Spatiality of Superdiversity

This chapter synthesizes the previous empirical chapters into the theoretical debate on the spatiality of superdiversity and discusses the intricate relationship between migration and urban spaces. It takes a closer look into the concept of superdiversity, a term describing the multifaceted diversity arising from global migration, and particularly its impact on urban spaces. The chapter emphasizes the underexplored spatial aspects of superdiversity in urban studies, addressing how these diverse migrant communities shape and are shaped by the cities they inhabit. It critically examines the spatial manifestation of superdiversity, particularly in global cities, and highlights the need for a deeper understanding of the socio-spatial dynamics of urban diversity especially by taking geographical approaches, such as the inter- and multi-scalar perspectives on urban space making. It also calls for further research into issues of intersectionality within the urban diversity debates, changing the lens from intersecting to intersectional spaces.
