The advent of small bowel capsule endoscopy in 2001 by Given Imaging gave rise to a new field in digestive endoscopy allowing the endoscopic view of the small bowel. Different systems are now available, but the way the software works in terms of the clinician is not fundamentally different between them. The manufacturers gradually introduced different tools that help the clinicians in the task of analysing the video. The precise location of the lesions, as well as the ability to presume their histologic nature are unanswered questions. The magnetic control of the capsule may change, in the future, the way we look at this device.
