Spiral Enteroscopy
摘要
Spiral enteroscopy (SE) uses a unique principle of deep enteroscopy, which is different from push-and-pull technique of balloon-assisted enteroscopy technique. Spiral fins on the outside of an overtube translate rotational force into longitudinal movement of the endoscope to traverse the small bowel. By clockwise rotation of the spiral overtube, the small intestine is continually pleated over the overtube and vice versa. The bowel and the adherent mesentery are not torqued by this procedure. As a refinement of SE, from 2015 until 2023 a motorized version of the spiral enteroscopy system was available in Europe and parts of Asia that uses an integrated electric motor for spiral rotation (“self-propelling” spiral enteroscopy).
