Early Use of Video Capsule Endoscopy in the Emergency Department or Clinical Decision Unit
摘要
Video capsule endoscopy (VCE) has been used extensively and effectively to detect the source of small intestinal bleeding, be it occult or overt. The possible role of early capsule endoscopy in the setting of the emergency department or in a Clinical Decision Unit has received limited attention, but emerging data have demonstrated that the early use of VCE in patients with acute gastrointestinal bleeding of all types may improve the diagnostic yield, focus therapeutic interventions, reduce unnecessary procedures, and shorten the length of hospital stay.
