A Look on Sphenoid Sinus
摘要
The sphenoid sinus deserves attention during the reading of any MRI of the sellar region. The extent of its pneumatization acts on the shape of the sella turcica and then on the shape and appearance of the pituitary gland. Blistering of the planum sphenoidale orients toward a meningioma insertion. Thickening of the sphenoid sinus mucosa can be an interesting additional finding in several conditions such as pituitary apoplexy, hypophysitis or in case of complication of a Rathke cleft cyst. The mucous retentional intrasinusal cyst frequently observed after transsphenoidal surgery must be observed during follow-up. An intrasinusal “polyp” could be an ectopic pituitary adenoma.
