Axial T1: An Underused MRI Sequence

  • Jean-François Bonneville

摘要

The axial T1W sequence is very rarely obtained in most centers for evaluation of the pituitary region, including excellence centers. However, this sequence is extremely useful in many circumstances. It is the most adequate to separate the posterior lobe of the pituitary from a mucinous Rathke cleft cyst or from a fatty dorsum sellae which can be confused on sagittal T1WIs. Axial T1W Fatsat sequence is highly recommended each time an arginine-vasopressin deficiency is suspected. Axial T1WIs without and with gadolinium injection as well as axial T2WIS can make the diagnosis of limited cavernous sinus invasion earlier.
