Prolactinoma in Man

Prolactinomas in men are most often macroadenomas. Prolactin level can be as high as thousands of micrograms per liter. They are frequently discovered by chance since symptoms may be neglected. They grow mostly downward and then inconsistently responsible of visual defects. Invasion of the sphenoid sinus can be massive, mimicking a sphenoid sinus tumor. Invasion of the cavernous sinus is also very frequent. Despite these characteristics, evolution with dopaminagonist treatment is usually excellent. The risk of CSF fistula during treatment must be considered.
