Instability

Numerous techniques exist in the literature to treat lateral instability. In this chapter, the authors describe the modified Broström-Gould operation, the Watson-Jones operation, the Chrisman-Snook operation and the lateral ligament plasty with a free peroneus brevis tendon graft in step-by-step instructions. In addition to lateral stabilization, this chapter also explains syndesmosis stabilization with single and double pulley systems and describes techniques for treating peroneal tendon dislocations (reconstruction of the retinaculum, deepening of the sliding groove).
