Enhancing Data Privacy and Security in Healthcare IoT Applications Through Edge Data Filtering and Encryption for Secure and Compliant Cloud Transmission

IoT technology have been incorporated into healthcare systems to manage medical equipment, remotely monitor patients, and gather important health-related data. Although these advances have many advantages, they also present new security risks. The healthcare sector must protect patient data from online threats and illegal access, as well as make sure that it complies with laws like HIPAA and GDPR. This project focuses on using ESP32 WiFi boards as edge devices to overcome these issues. These cost- and energy-effective microcontrollers provide the computing capability and WiFi connectivity required for data transmission. The research project attempts to lower the risk of data breaches and unauthorized access by introducing data filtering and encryption at the edge. Sensitive patient data is encrypted, and access restrictions, data validation, intrusion detection, and compliance checks are all included in the planned security measures. These precautions are meant to make sure that only approved, secure, and legal data is sent to the cloud. To preserve the security and functioning of the ESP32 devices, the project also highlights the value of user education, device health monitoring, and remote management.
