Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia and TRS are two of the most severe chronic mental health disorders. TRS is a distinct category. A focus on TRS sends a core message: It is very important to be well-educated in the evidence-based pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy of TRS because it is associated with a very high burden for the people with TRS and their families, and especially with a high suicidality rate. Therefore, it is very important to give a diagnosis of TRS. The diagnostic procedure, the epidemiology, the comorbidity, and the evidence-based pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation of TRS will be discussed. The importance of psychoeducation in relapse prevention will be presented. All the interventions will be discussed from a recovery perspective. Case studies will be displayed. An introduction to the implementation of a research protocol by the authors will be discussed. Finally, the importance of the above evidence-based interventions will be analyzed.
