The use of sharps—including needles—in all disciplines of dentistry is a known risk for transmission of infectious diseases, especially bloodborne pathogens. Best practices regarding safe handling and safe injection guidelines are essential to maintaining infection control standards. The COVID-19 pandemic introduced an increased stress and strain on strict adherence to infection control protocols, narrowing the margin for area in all domains.
