Overview of Infectious Diseases of Concern to Dental Practitioners: Other Viral Infections Airborne Pathogens

Viral pathogens vary in their prevalence, transmission, clinical manifestations, and treatment. Healthcare providers should be aware of the scope of viral pathogens that may be transmitted through direct contact, droplets, and aerosols and be prepared to implement mitigation strategies that will reduce communication of such diseases in the dental operatory. Additionally, providers should also be knowledgeable about pharmacologic options to manage viral illnesses and promote vaccination to prevent future outbreaks.
