Opening an Industrial Robot Controller: Advanced Commercial Robotics Applications, Rapid Prototyping and Fast Research to Industry Technology Transfer

In the development process of advanced robotics applications arises the need for an open platform able to enable the developers to rapidly test their algorithms on the robot, while keeping every other safe functionality active, and perform as ground base for commercial products with advanced capabilities. To address this task Comau has developed the Open Controller, a complete robotic system inside which a fast real time software layer is used to connect a development unit with the on-board robot computer. The effectiveness of the proposed approach has been proven in numerous partner installments.
