“Women Will Win” Geology and Careers for Women in the World Wars
摘要
The US government wanted to study and express the opportunities and outlooks for women seeking careers in geology during World War II and into the post-war period. Bureaucratic organizations like the US Department of Labor and the Women’s Bureau published sophisticated studies of women working in geology. Many of these studies, as well as other publications, emphasized the romantic and adventurous experiences of women working in geology. Pictures and images promoted women working in geology engaging in the glamorous and most scientifically rigorous activities of their jobs. Publications about careers in geology contained discussions about how to properly train women for these emerging career pathways.
