Intertextuality

  • Mehmet Yildiz

摘要

Intertextuality is a sine qua non of textuality, for a text originates from its associations with a previous text that occurs in a vast intertextual network and serves as a relay to expand the network. Thus, a text becomes a part of this network by establishing retrospective and prospective intertextual links. Translation assumes a special role in the formation of interlinguistic intertextuality. This chapter first provides an in-depth discussion of intertextuality as a textual phenomenon and then conceptualises intertextuality through the lens of translation, retranslation, and pseudo-retranslation by problematising this special role.
