摘要

Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are characterized by a heterogeneous presentation of symptoms. A thorough assessment is needed for clinicians to identify appropriate treatment targets and develop individualized interventions that meet the unique needs and goals of the individual and their caregivers. This chapter discusses the screening and assessment procedures used to identify treatment targets for children diagnosed with ASD. We review common skill-based and adaptive assessments and discuss the link between adaptive skill deficits and externalizing behaviors in this population. We then describe the screening and assessment procedures that specifically target externalizing behaviors in ASD. Throughout this chapter, we emphasize a collaborative assessment process in which the client and their caregivers are intimately involved.
