Related Disorders (Intellectual, Attention, and Language Disorders) and ASD

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related disorders such as intellectual disability (ID), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and language disorders (LDs) share diagnostic challenges due to symptom overlap. Comprehensive clinical assessments are important for distinguishing among these conditions, especially given their common comorbidities. This chapter reviews the criteria for diagnosing these conditions, the prevalence of comorbidities, and the challenges in distinguishing among them due to their shared symptomatology. A multidisciplinary approach is crucial for advancing understanding and improving outcomes for individuals navigating these intertwined conditions.
