Teaching Independent Living Skills to Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
摘要
Independent living skills can improve the quality of life for autistic individuals across the lifespan; however, instruction and support must start at an early age. This chapter will serve as a resource for early intervention providers, preschool teachers, and parents and caregivers as it outlines essential repertoires to target very young children with autism and suggests instructional strategies that may increase overall independent functioning in individuals with autism. Additionally, the chapter reviews relevant research in this area and discusses potential barriers to instruction.
