Compared with the light sources for VLC transmitter introduced in Chapter 2 , this chapter introduces photodetectors for VLC receiver. These include the general-purpose PIN-PD (Positive-intrinsic-negative photodiode), APD (Avalanche photodiode) suitable for high-speed signal detection, and PMT (Photomultiplier tube) suitable for high-sensitivity precision detection. In addition, this chapter also introduces 2D image sensors for optical camera communications, which involving advanced metalens technology. Finally, a photon-counting detector operating in the digital domain without electronic noise is introduced.
