In this work, the attention is focused on the possibility to directly estimate Lorenz curve and income inequality characteristics by using a new approach, involving Lorenz curve derivative, the so-called share density. In a parametric perspective, the maximum likelihood method is used to obtain parameter estimates characterizing the share density, by considering in a proper manner the observed data. Preliminary results regarding 27 different European countries are obtained, starting from European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) cross-sectional data.

摘要

In this work, the attention is focused on the possibility to directly estimate Lorenz curve and income inequality characteristics by using a new approach, involving Lorenz curve derivative, the so-called share density. In a parametric perspective, the maximum likelihood method is used to obtain parameter estimates characterizing the share density, by considering in a proper manner the observed data. Preliminary results regarding 27 different European countries are obtained, starting from European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) cross-sectional data.
