The paper presents the activities and results of the national competition for upper secondary students Italian Statistical Competition, started by the Italian Statistical Society in 2010 and jointly organized and managed with the Italian National Institute of Statistics – Istat since 2017. A historical overview of the activity is summarized analyzing the pages of the corporate websites (Sis and Istat) presenting it. Evolutions and changes are presented, including a fundamental addition to permit the participation to the European Statistics Competition which began in 2018. A second part is devoted to presenting participation data which shows the growth in participation, of both schools and students also at the territorial level, with a focus on students’ evaluation.
