Accident Reduction Technology at Oil Storage Enterprises

The article considers the most probable causes of explosive and fire-hazardous situations in the tank farms of oil storage companies. The article analyzes the specifics of the combustible medium and technological processes associated with the possible formation of explosive mixtures. The geometric volume of the explosive zone within the radius of the tank location has been confirmed by calculations. The research proposes the approaches to reduce the probability of fire hazard in the process of storing and pumping oil. The necessity of the safety system upgrade at a hazardous facility is justified. The authors suggest a technical solution for equipping the tank farm with a gas equalization system with additionally installed concentration monitoring sensors based on the use of an information and software complex. The adoption of digital technology will allow for the automatic monitoring, processing, visualization and transmission of information on the concentration of explosive mixtures in the area of the tank location. The function of this system is the storage and transmission of a large array of data providing for a high computing speed which is necessary to make decisions on the technological process safety provision.
