Chemical Activation as Promising Method of Converting Fossil Coal from the Tigyit Deposit into Activated Carbons

The article provides the results of studying the chemical activation processes using potassium carbonate of fossil coal from the Tigyit deposit (Tigyit, Myanmar) to obtain granular activated carbons. The results of the petrographic analysis of raw materials in the form of a maceral composition and an arbitrary vitrinite reflection index are characterized, indicating the potential possibility of its use to solve the problem stated above. Based on the data of thermographic tests performed in a protective atmosphere, the rational limits of thermal effects on raw materials during chemical activation are estimated. In the form of a number of technical parameters of the target products, the expedient conditions for the implementation of the process and the results of chemical activation are provided; they indicate the possibility of obtaining active carbons based on these raw materials with structural and adsorption properties acceptable for practical use.
